2022 Call for Board Nominations

Alberta Artistic Swimming is the non-profit, provincial sport organization for artistic swimming. Our mission is to lead and develop people in the sport of artistic swimming that aligns with our values of collaboration, excellence, innovation, and integrity.

We’re looking for a number of passionate individuals who are interested in joining the board of directors and board committees for the 2022-2024 term. This year we have 2 Director-at-large positions (2 year term) available and various board committee positions. We are eager to see representation on the board/committees that reflects the diversity of our province and includes individuals from a variety of geographic regions of Alberta.

Nominees may not hold an employment or contractor position with Alberta Artistic Swimming. Nominees will be recruited and recommended by the Nominating Committee to stand for election based upon their demonstrated ability to contribute significantly to the leadership of Alberta Artistic Swimming. Nominees should have core competencies to serve as a Board member and at least two years previous experience on a volunteer Board. Board experience is not necessary for those submitting for a Board Committee position.    

In addition, the Nominating Committee has identified these specific core competencies as a priority to address some gaps for the Alberta Artistic Swimming Board/Committee as follows.

  • Accounting and/or financial management knowledge or expertise;
  • Risk management expertise;
  • Human Resources expertise ;
  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion knowledge and expertise; and
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in non-profit or other endeavours.

Nominations Eligibility & General Information

CANDIDATE ELIGIBLITY

Interested individuals must be from the province of Alberta and meet the following provisions as stated in the Alberta Artistic Swimming By-Laws

Article VII, Section 3, Eligibility of Directors:

  • To be eligible for election as a Director, an individual must:
  • Be eighteen (18) years of age or older;
  • Not be employed by the Corporation;
  • Have the power under law to contract;
  • Have not been declared incapable by a court in Canada or in another country; and
  • Not have the status of bankrupt.

Article VII, Section 4 c: 

  • be a member in good standing; 
  • be accompanied by a resume; and
  • no nominations are accepted from the floor. 

Nominees must be further fulfill any requirements of the Societies Act, be a resident of Alberta and meet any nomination requirements identified by the Nominating Committee.

General Information

All Nominees will support the vision, mission and values of Alberta Artistic Swimming and will be independent to the extent that any existing affiliations within the Alberta artistic swimming community do not place them in a conflict of interest position.

Interested applicants must submit all information requested in this online nomination form and for Board positions upload a resume that includes professional references. Following the close of nominations, interviews with nominees will be held in the evenings and following interviews nominees will be asked to provide a response to a question posed by the Nominating Committee that will be shared with the membership.

A Report of the Nominating Committee that will include this information will be sent out to each club.

Successful individuals elected or named to the Board/Committee must comply with any of the organization's screening or policy requirements as a Board/Committee member. These include but are not limited to a background check, and Respect In Sport for Activity Leaders training. New Board/Committee members will receive an orientation from the President, Executive Director or other Board member(s). 

AAS Board members must attend meetings and conference calls, held approximately monthly, may be asked to participate on Board committees and attend Alberta Artistic Swimming meets. AAS Committee members must attend committee meetings and conference calls, held approximately monthly, and may be asked to attend Alberta Artistic Swimming meets.

The Nominating Committee will be verifying membership of all nominees at the nomination deadline and anyone that has failed to complete this requirement by the submission deadline will be ineligible to stand for election.
